Visualizing Beethoven

- Color Code System of Music

This project explores the relationship between colors and emotions. It is an abstract interpretation of a part of Beethoven’s Sonata No.5 in F major, which also goes by another name called “Spring.” In this selection of the sonata, there are two instruments, a violin and a piano. I use two realms of color to visually represent these two tones, the warm orange is the violin and the cold blue is the piano. In the visualization, these two colors integrate with each other like what violin and piano interact in music. The shape of the colors, like the length and width of pages, represents the movement of musical tones.
